The Missoula Urban Transportation District (MUTD) was established by voters in June of 1976, and the resulting service, known as Mountain Line, began operating on December 12, 1977. Serving an average of 1.5 million rides per year, Mountain Line serves 70 square miles throughout the Missoula Valley, running 12 fixed routes with a fleet of 30, all ADA-accessible coaches. Within its service territory, the organization also offers door-to-door Paratransit service and a complimentary door-to-door Shuttle Van service for seniors not eligible for Paratransit under ADA, as well as operates special services in collaboration with community partners during popular community events.
Encompassing responsibilities in areas including community and public relations, personnel management, safety, and compliance, the CEO/General Manager shall provide strategic leadership striving for organizational excellence while aligning with community needs to meet ever-changing transit demands.
The ideal candidate will bring vision, planning, and execution to the post. This individual shall understand, and continually refresh their understanding of, best practices in fixed-route and paratransit in order to define and achieve objectives ensuring MUTD is exemplary. Through leadership and skillful relations with the community and the board, the CEO/General Manager cultivates goodwill and strengthens partnerships to sustainably and efficiently expand mobility using transit. This position acts as a strong voice in supporting Missoula’s urban design and climate-resilient growth efforts including transit-oriented and pedestrian-friendly development.
This position requires education and professional experience sufficient for the position’s demands, generally but not exclusively a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation Planning, or related field as well as a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible management-level transportation experience.
In addition, the candidate must have experience which demonstrates leadership in strategic planning, team management, and project execution. They also demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, community service, and innovation in public transportation, and communicate via exemplary communication skills, both written and oral, that ably represent MUTD.
