Job Description
Assists Division Transportation Manager to direct and monitor all transportation activities including dispatching, work distribution, and supervision of street operations to ensure safe, reliable, responsive service within the Hartford division.

Salary: $72,000 - $86,000 Annually

Examples of Duties
  1. Assists Division Transportation Manager in overseeing daily revenue service bus operations and administration to ensure compliance with CTtransit, federal, state, local, and contractual requirements, conformity with company goals, and responsiveness to customer expectations in the Hartford division.

  2. Supports the identification of problems and obstacles to high performance, and helps develop policies and procedures that improve service and ensure safe, reliable, customer-focused and cost-effective service.

  3. Helps to oversee the investigation and recording of customer complaints, commendations and operator infractions.

  4. Reinforces performance expectations with supervisory and Bus Operator staff and regularly offers positive and constructive feedback to improve performance.

  5. Coaches, counsels and provides recognition for Bus Operators to improve performance, helps determine and initiate appropriate recognition and disciplinary action as prescribed by Company policies, rules, and labor contracts.

  6. Assists in preparing documentation for and in discussions with Union and employees related to unemployment compensation, grievance arbitrations, and disciplinary actions, as assigned.

  7. Coordinates Operator ride check observations by company agent and outside vendors.

  8. Manages the evaluation of probationary Bus Operators, provides individualized coaching for Operators on customer relations skills, and ensures Bus Operator adherence to Company policies and procedures as well as compliance with ADA regulations.

  9. Assists with managing problems, emergencies, and special events involving Hartford division service on a 24 hour basis.

  10. Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.

  11. Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency. Provides training for Agency personnel as required. Actively participates in staff meetings, trainings, etc.

  12. Has thorough working knowledge of Agency polices and procedures.

  13. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  1. A college degree or other preparatory technical, managerial, and supervisory training is highly desirable.

  2. A minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible supervisory or managerial experience and demonstrated effectiveness in managing public transportation operations and staff is required.

  3. Extensive knowledge and understanding of transit operations, policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, safety and customer service requirements, transportation technology, and union contract provisions is required.

  4. Knowledge of the principles and practices of management and supervision is essential, along with a proven track record demonstrating competence in the analytical, planning, project management, performance management, service improvement aspects of transportation management.

  5. Proficient in software programs (word processing, spreadsheet and database), Internet applications and utilization of all relevant office equipment. The ability to learn quickly internal software programs. Must be able to handle confidential information.

  6. The ability to prioritize projects and demonstrate effective leadership in communicating and building commitment to the organization's goals through excellent communication (especially verbal), interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  7. Valid drivers' license and the ability to be insured by our insurance company throughout employment. Individual may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
