Transit Director of Matbus services

Are you a strategic, community focused leader with a passion for advancing public transit? The City of Fargo is seeking an experienced Transit Director to lead metro wide fixed route and paratransit services, serving more than 2 million annual riders across the FM Metro Area.

About the Role
As the Transit Director, you will guide all aspects of the Transit Department — operations, planning, compliance, partnerships, budget management and long-range strategy. You'll work closely with the MATBUS Coordination Committee, City leadership and regional partners to deliver safe, efficient and innovative transit services. This role also serves as the city’s lead representative to the Federal Transit Administration and oversees ADA, Civil Rights, Safety, and DBE program compliance.

Scope of Impact

  • Lead a team of approximately 120 FTEs across the Metro Transit system.
  • Oversee $46 million in capital assets and an annual operating budget exceeding $10 million, plus $5–8 million in annual grant funding.
  • Manage major multi city and university transit partnerships and contracts.
  • Guide strategic planning to meet the growing needs of a diverse and expanding community. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience managing an urbanized transit system, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of federal/state transit regulations, public administration, budgeting, procurement, and transit planning.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to build effective, collaborative teams.
  • Valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required.
