SUMMARY
The Shift Supervisor, Electrical Power is responsible for supervising the installation, testing operating maintenance and management of the electrical power distribution system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervises the routine, preventative, and unscheduled maintenance, inspection, testing, modification and repair of all equipment associated with electrical power distribution systems (both AC and DC substations) and emergency trip station facilities. Assigns duties to personnel by workload priority, giving instructions in proper work methods/techniques, and ensuring materials are available for assigned maintenance activities.
- Conducts inspections and monitors schedules for timely and satisfactory completion of work.
- Trains, evaluates and (re)certifies employees in accordance with WMATA’s Employee Certification, and Training and Promotional Program.
- Discusses and resolves complaints and grievances with employees in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and personnel policies, conducts performance-based conversations or assessments of employees and documents and maintains employee record. Manages training records and personnel actions.
- Attends formal and informal training programs, to maintain level of expertise.
- Prepares, submits, and reviews necessary reports and maintenance documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Experience
A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the installation, testing, operations, and maintenance of electrical traction power system equipment for direct current propulsion of rapid transit operations, industrial power distribution or related fields is required. Work with high voltage protection and transformation equipment in voltage classes up to 34.5 KV and experience in fields of cable plant and contact rail inspection, test and maintenance
Certification/Licensure
Must have, or be able to obtain, a Level IV Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) certification within two (2) weeks of hire and maintained for the duration of time in job
Preferred
Two (2) years of supervisory experience in the electrical field
Work with high voltage protection and transformation equipment in voltage classes up to 34.5 KV, preferably in power utility field
