Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000

The South County Connector is a transit program serving 17,000 residents over 250 square miles in Southern Berkshire County, MA. The program operates demand-response services and one FLEX route 7 days a week, providing over 2,200 monthly rides within the towns of Egremont, Great Barrington, Monterey, Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, Sheffield, and Canaan, CT. The Connector also provides rides for seniors and persons with disabilities to Pittsfield and from New Marlborough. The South County Connector is the program name of the Town of Great Barrington's Transit Department.

The Senior Transit Planner works under the supervision of the Town of Great Barrington's Director of Planning and Community Development on the tasks necessary to manage the long-range planning, grant-writing, and service planning aspects of the Transit Department. The responsibilities of the Senior Transit Planner include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Oversee service planning activities for the Transit program.

  • Determine budget, fares, and service levels for the Transit program, in collaboration with the Transit Operations Director and Director of Planning & Community Development.

  • In coordination with Operations staff, plan and implement operational logistics (zone boundaries, hours of operation, software, vehicle usage).

  • Assist with developing and tracking the annual program budget (appx. $500,000).

  • In collaboration with the Director of Planning & Community Development, write grant applications on behalf of the program, and gather necessary support—imperative for long-term program success.

  • Ensure appropriate procurement policies and documentation for purchasing are followed, in coordination with the Director of Planning & Community Development.

  • Coordinate with local organizations to create partnerships and boost ridership

  • Coordinate with the Scheduling & Compliance Specialist to manage reporting for state and federal funding.

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Transit Operations Manager and the Scheduling & Compliance Specialist, work to ensure accurate monthly reporting for local, state, and federal funding.

  • Coordinate with the Town of Great Barrington's Regional Transportation Advisory Committee (RTAC) to accomplish the goals of the program and member communities.

  • Perform similar duties as required.
The duties herein may be revised based on the program, available funding, and the employee’s performance.

Experience:
  • Grant Writing experience required.

  • Knowledge of public transit required.

  • 2 years of Transportation Planning experience (or equivalent) is required.

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, Business) preferred, but not required.

  • Strong knowledge of budgeting principles and financial management.

  • Strong administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
