Ivan Maldonado begins tenure as executive director at Palm Tran

Maldonado has nearly 20 years of experience in the transit industry, most recently as deputy executive officer at Metro in Omaha, Neb.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLA. — Ivan Maldonado, Palm Tran's new executive director, started work on Monday. His hiring was approved by Palm Beach County officials on July 2.

Maldonado succeeds interim director Michael Blaylock, who was appointed in November 2023 after the death of Clinton Forbes.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ivan as our new executive director and our first Hispanic executive director in Palm Tran history," Palm Tran said in a news release.

Maldonado steps into his new position after serving as deputy executive officer at Metro in Omaha, Neb., for three years. Before that, he served as director of transportation and bus operations at Hillsborough Transit Authority in Tampa, Fla. He also served as director of the Bus Operations Control Center and Street Operations at Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and general manager at StarMetro in Tallahassee, Fla.

"I am honored to join Palm Tran and to have the opportunity to serve the residents of Palm Beach County," Maldonado said in the news release. "I look forward to working collaboratively with the talented team at Palm Tran to build on our successes and to further enhance the transportation services that are vital to Palm Beach County."
