SUMMARY
The Product Manager, Digital Screen Program, in an effort to focus on and create a better rider experience, leads the improvement efforts of how Metro communicates to its customers through the digital screens found in stations, on-board rail cars, and on-board buses. The incumbent works across the organization to create a software roadmap that modernizes and unifies Metro’s digital screen network and data feeds. The incumbent manages a team responsible for creating requirement documents for software vendors that will be utilized to produce better displays of train and bus arrivals/departures, transit marketing information and station or route-specific maps. The incumbent utilizes a strong understanding of transit data sources, back-end, and front-end programming languages to produce data pipelines that track, analyze, and improve Metro’s digital products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Defines and prioritizes the product roadmap and digital screen enhancement development efforts for rail stations, bus stops, and Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess vehicles, in coordination with IT and the software vendor.
  • Develops and implements the short- and long-term strategy for a content management system that feed multiple types of screens that live across our system, seeking to improve consistency in content and quality across platforms.
  • Works with other stakeholders across Metro to identify product opportunities; supports the building, prioritizing, and executing of the team’s roadmap and backlog; and communicates updates to key stakeholders.
  • Drives product enhancements to streamline creating and publishing content, and recurring standards management, data integrity, and data structure to optimally target customers, ensuring a straightforward, standardized, documented approach to managing Metro’s passenger data and sharing guidelines and procedures across our technology user base.
  • Sets schedules, tracks deliverables, tracks customer/user feedback, ensures effective templates are developed, and reports to various agency stakeholders on priorities and progress. Negotiates and manages relationships with current and potential vendors.
  • Ensures passenger information is categorized and named effectively with consistent abbreviations and that signage is free from typos, data formatting, data quality, API, auditing, and change control.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team, including front- and back-end developers, UX designers, and project managers, in delivering quality products while balancing user experience, technical capabilities, and business goals.
  • Works with internal and contracted technical teams responsible for the different station and onboard customer information systems to plan, design, and review enhancements to digital screen content providing real-time service information to our customers.
  • Sets and monitors product KPIs and provide recommendations based on results. Monitor, measures, and reports on the performance and impact of product enhancements.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues and works with product vendors and internal teams to see through to resolution. Documents and prioritizes bugs. Serves as an internal subject-matter expert on relevant digital products and drives digital transformation.
  • Facilitates and advocates for user research and testing and customer-centric design. Identifies research needs and implements or works with designers and researchers to implement.
  • Develops, monitors, and manages project plans, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with team members and stakeholders. Communicates project updates to team members, stakeholders, and clients. Identifies and mitigates project risks and develop contingency plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor’s degree in digital media, Design, Web Development, or a related field.

In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of digital media project management experience, in addition to the experience stated below, will be considered

Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of digital product innovation experience that includes the use of Agile Frameworks and product development life-cycle management activities

Experience must include at least two (2) years in a supervisory and/or leadership capacity

Preferred
  • Experience in feature management, UI/UX element design and software like Figma. HTML, code, API, data field experience
  • Project Management Certification
  • Experience managing a CMS is preferred.
  • Experience in service design is a plus.
  • Experience with public transportation customer information is a plus.
  • Experience with technical issues, including building APIs, is helpful.
