Southland Transit Inc. (STI) is seeking a Safety and Training Manager to work in the Riverside County area under our contract with Riverside Transit Agency. We have an immediate need to fill this position.

The Safety & Training Manager is directly responsible for the overall safety system of the assigned division, including risk assessment, training, driver recruiting and selection, incident reporting, regulatory/program compliance (including Drug & Alcohol and Pull Notice Program). This position is directly responsible for maintaining adequate driver staffing levels, ensuring sufficient training is provided, and ensuring full compliance with all company, client and DOT policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicates company programs, rules, and tools related to safety

  • Manages all aspects of site safety training; manages classroom and behind-the-wheel training schedules, and maintains personnel and qualification files pertaining to training, safety and loss matters

  • Ensures that all accidents are ethically and properly investigated

  • Conducts evaluations and inspections to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss potential

  • Conducts evaluations and inspections to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss potential; ensures that safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon, and documented

  • Ensures contract compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations; ensures that related record keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained; provides support in implementing the approved recommendations

  • Ensures that the security program is in compliance with federal guidelines and that all employees are properly trained

  • Ensures that safety meetings are held on a regular basis and documentation of the meetings is properly maintained; oversees the system safety program to ensure compliance with Federal Transportation

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma - four (4) year degree preferred

  • Familiar with DOT policies, OSHA and EPA standards, and ADA requirements

  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of DOT, Federal Motor Carrier and FTA rules and regulations

  • Must be TSI Certified in Mass Transit Instruction or Instructors Course in Bus/Paratransit Operator Training

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • CDL Class B with P endorsement required

  • Experience in selecting, hiring and training qualified candidates for employment

  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and oral)

  • Five (5)+ years of progressive supervisory/ management experience preferably in a paratransit environment

  • Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritize

  • Able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the operation

  • Ability to pass drug test and criminal background check
