SMART is a commuter rail service located in the Northern San Francisco Bay Area, serving Marin and Sonoma Counties. The Safety and Compliance Officer is responsible for the District’s overall safety plans, programs and practices as it relates to operations, transportation and maintenance of SMART’s train sets. The Safety and Compliance Officer will take a leadership role in the development and implementation of safety and compliance programs that meet and exceed all federal, state and regional requirements including Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), California Public Utility Commission (CPUC), American Public Transportation Association (APTA), and Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) programs and health and safety laws.

MUST HAVE EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF FRA REGULATIONS AND REPORTING REQUIREMENTS.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, engineering or related field from an accredited college or university;

  • Additional related experience above the minimum may be substituted for college on a year for year basis;

  • A minimum of six (6) years of full-time verifiable management (of staff or programs) and supervisory experience in a passenger railroad or public transportation rail maintenance environment.

  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license or be able to acquire one within sixty (60) days of employment.
