Metro is seeking a
Maintenance Workforce Development Manager to develop, implement, and manage comprehensive training programs for fleet maintenance technicians. This role will manage the joint labor/management training committee to develop an industry leading apprenticeship program that will involve assessing the training needs of the team, designing curriculum and training materials, and ensuring that all maintenance personnel are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties efficiently and safely. The manager will also stay updated on industry best practices and technological advancements to ensure Metro’s training programs remain relevant and effective.
JOB DUTIES - Develop and design training programs and materials tailored to the needs of fleet maintenance technicians.
- Create and update training manuals, e-learning modules, and hands-on training sessions.
- Integrate industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and technological advancements into training content.
- Conduct training sessions, workshops, and seminars for fleet maintenance personnel.
- Coordinate with external vendors or industry experts to deliver specialized training as needed.
- Utilize various training methods, including classroom instruction, practical demonstrations, and online courses.
- Assess training needs through skills assessments, performance reviews, and feedback from maintenance personnel.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and adjust as necessary to meet evolving needs.
- Implement metrics and reporting systems to track training progress and outcomes.
- Ensure all training programs comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Maintain records of training certifications and compliance for all maintenance personnel.
- Provide guidance and support to technicians in applying training concepts to their daily tasks.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the maintenance team.
- Develop and manage the training budget, including costs for materials, external trainers, and other resources.
- Source and manage training tools, equipment, and materials.
- Collaborate with fleet management, HR, and other departments to align training initiatives with organizational goals.
- Report on training activities, progress, and outcomes to senior management.
- Collaborate with Metro’s Alternative Fuels Program Manager and operator training department to create extensive training programs for all employees operating and maintaining alternative fuel vehicles and charging equipment.
- Determine necessary levels of workforce and assist in the selection process of new hires.
- Schedule work, assign responsibilities, provide daily oversight to direct reports.
- Foster positive Labor and Management relations.
- Evaluate and improve work practices, workflow, and equipment.

Education - Associate’s degree (two-year college or technical school) or equivalent.
Experience - Five or more years’ experience in transit or an industry or related transportation and/or fleet maintenance industry.
- Five or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
SKILLS & ABILITIES Computer Skills - Working knowledge of procurement/inventory systems, payroll and timekeeping applications, internet, email, and applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and other Microsoft 365 systems.
Other Requirements - Working knowledge of coach technology, alternative fuels, coach maintenance, diesel technical training, and maintenance management system.
- Excellent communication skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - 70% office atmosphere, 30% garage atmosphere.
