General Description
The Transit Chief Operating Officer is an executive level position, reporting to the Transit General Manager (GM), that provides leadership and direction for Metro Transit's internal operations to optimize organizational effectiveness. The position is expected to identify and implement new approaches and technologies to improve customer service, performance, safety, and teamwork on a continuous basis. This position is responsible for infusing racial equity, social justice and inclusion goals, principles, and tools into all aspects of work and culture at Metro Transit. The position shall exemplify and set the tone for continuous improvement throughout the organization and ensure cost-effective use of available resources.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial experience and leadership for a large staff in a public transit role with two (2) years at a manager, director, or chief level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
OR
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a public transit role, which included at least five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial experience and leadership for a large staff with two (2) years at a manager, director, or chief level.
If an applicant does not possess the specific requirements outlined above, HR will review the application materials to determine if the applicant possesses the following equivalent experience:

Four (4) years of experience in applying the following:
  • Administration and project management tools and techniques with the agility to push through organizational barriers and overcome challenges.
  • Administration of public sector processes.
  • Related program management principles, practices and techniques including considerable skill in planning, organizing and administering programs, services and activities.
  • The full range of supervisory principles and practices, labor relations, and personnel management.

Two (2) years of experience in applying the following:
  • Related administrative considerations, including workflow and budgetary analysis.
  • Computer programs, spreadsheets, and databases applicable to the duties of the position.
  • Racial equity and social justice concepts, terms and tools.

Salary: $114,961.60 - $155,197.12 Annually
