Basic Function:
Responsible for the daily planning and scheduling for all work schedules and activities involving mobile and fixed-end equipment applications associated with fare collection, electronic communications systems and surveillance devices throughout the organization and privatized services. Responsible for completion and quality of work performed by the technical staff. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties:
Supervises the Electronic Maintenance Foremen in the daily maintenance and repair of all assigned mobile, and electronic fare recovery, radio communications, and surveillance equipment, specifically:
  • Assists foremen/mechanics/technicians in assuring quality and timely repairs.

  • Responsible for personnel and general administrative matters; payroll processes, performance issues, grievances, interviews and enforcement of organizational procedures.

  • Maintains shop records of work performed, overtime and absenteeism.

  • Maintains and evaluates quality work standards.

  • Supervises maintenance and calibration of repair equipment, including those associated with tests, measurements, and diagnosis.

  • Reviews work history of electronic maintenance performance on a continuing basis to identify failure trends, repeat repairs, defects, or special problems.

  • Prepares reports and briefings regarding functionality and performance of supported systems, performs inter and intra-departmental coordination of support requirements, schedules, and results.

  • Assists in the development, review, and coordination of technical specifications for new electronic equipment; participates as key committee member for acquisition, distribution, and utilization of spare parts and components throughout the supported systems.

  • Develops and supervises the execution of schedules associated with electronic preparation of new and replaces buses, vans, and support vehicles; oversees the contractual processes associated with acquiring new electronic equipment and repair parts.

  • Coordinates all aspects of electronic equipment removal, testing and packaging for return to inventory.

  • Performs or coordinates in-plant bus line manufacturing inspections on communications or signage equipment installations.

  • Oversees on-the-job and formal training processes for the electronic maintenance staff.

  • Performs periodic inspection of Electronic Maintenance support vehicle fleet to assure appropriate standards for cleanliness, maintenance, repair, and parts inventory are being maintained.

  • Conducts periodic reviews of garage preventive maintenance of assigned responsibilities in communication and signage equipment.

  • Coordinates necessary electronic maintenance support for privatized support contracts; performs periodic inspections of supported equipment to assure that all applicable contractual requirements are satisfied.

  • Assures compliance with established work process and safety practices.

  • Prioritizes and coordinates workflow.

  • Acts as Superintendent in absence.

  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.

  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement:
High school or GED required. Associate’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology is required.

Years & Experience Required:
Minimum six (6) years of progressive experience specific to electronic maintenance; four (4) years supervisory/management experience.

Knowledge & Skills Required:
FCC General Radio Telephone License. Working knowledge of Federal Communications Rules and Regulations. Good communications (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Good decision making skills. Thorough knowledge of electronic maintenance, inventory practices, safety and training procedures. Working knowledge of labor relations and union agreements. Basic knowledge of PC’s and related software.
