Director of Safety

Reporting to the Deputy General Manager of Legal Affairs and the General Manager, the Director of Safety sets, directs and implements safety policies for the organization. The position directs, facilitates, and takes a proactive approach towards the implementation of a safety management system. The position leverages RTA personnel and ensures accountability at all levels to ensure safety issues are identified, mitigated and resolved. Reports to State Safety Oversight agency on all aspects of regulation 49 CFR Part 659, including preparation and implementation of System Safety Program Plans, investigations, audits, unacceptable safety hazards and corrective action plans. Has working knowledge of rail state safety oversight regulations and safety certification of large projects. Understands engineering principles so that various systems are reviewed in a manner that reduces hazards or risk to an acceptable level. Reviews and approves all design projects. Evaluates safety processes through preliminary hazard analysis and job safety analysis, and formulates solutions to improve effectiveness and reduce incidents. Directs and supervises Safety personnel. Directs and conducts the investigation of accidents and oversees preparation of root-cause analysis reports with identification of causal factors and recommendations. Ensures that RTA facilities are in compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations and standards, including environmental regulations, NFPA and Fire codes. Motivates employees by directing safety outreach campaigns, safety committees, and safety recognition programs. Educates the passengers through various communication campaigns. Develops and monitors the safety budget and recommends capital safety improvements through the capital budget. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. Conducts and performs drills to ensure and validate emergency response. Directs and prepares standard operating procedures related to the safety of various systems. This position will promote a secure and safe environment, follow all safety and security rules and perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $87,026 - $115,308
