Clallam Transit system is recruiting for a MECHANIC (RECRUITMENT NO. M-042019)

POSITION OVERVIEW: Under general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, this position performs vehicle and equipment inspections, servicing, repairs, and related activities, with emphasis on safety, efficiency, and responsiveness to operational needs. This is position is designated as safety-sensitive and subject to Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Clallam Transit System (CTS) drug and alcohol testing regulations.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD: Open: April 22, 2019. Close: Open until filled.

VACANCY LOCATION: Work location is the Port Angeles Base in Port Angeles, Washington. Travel may be required.

COMPENSATION: Earn up to $30.75 per hour, including ASE incentives. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per workweek, Monday through Friday. The hours of work may be adjusted to accommodate workload requirements and overtime may be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of journeyman-level mechanic experience.

Licensures/Certifications
  • Valid Washington (WA) State driver’s license; or ability to obtain a valid WA driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Washington State commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction removed, within probationary period.

Knowledge of/Competencies

Other
  • Must possess a complete set of heavy equipment tools (Appendix A) and tool box at time of hire. The toolbox must be able to be secured and be fitted with locking casters.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of heavy-duty diesel and/or automotive technology study.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of transit industry vehicle maintenance practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (time and percentages are approximations)
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Transportation medical card.
  • Physically capable of operating controls of mass transit vehicles.
  • 80% of time is spent standing while performing tasks.
  • 15% of time walking between tasks.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 90 pounds may be necessary.
  • Frequent climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching out, and twisting.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Able to converse and listen at ordinary sound levels.
  • Visually able to read normal and fine print.
  • Hear to receive information and speak clearly and distinctly to provide information over a telephone, in person, or in a group presentation.
  • Work involves fine hand manipulation, grasping, pushing, and pulling.
