THE WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN AREA TRANSIT AUTHORITY IS SEEKING A HIGHLY EXPERIENCED ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN WITH CURRENCY PROCESSING SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT EXPERIENCE.

THIS JOB OPENING IS FOR ONE (1) POSITION AT EISENHOWER AVENUE. THE SHIFT IS FROM 6:00AM-2:30PM. ASSIGNED DAYS OFF ARE SAT AND SUN.

Job Summary/Duties:
This is highly skilled maintenance and repair work in the two (2) distinct areas of electronics and electro-mechanics. Incumbent is responsible for aligning, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, overhauling and modifying all electronic/electro-mechanical and programmable logic equipment located in the Revenue Collection Facility and associated with revenue processing and/or accountability. The candidate for this position should have experience in high speed paper handling equipment such as currency processing systems, industrial/commercial bill machines, and mail sorting machines. Incumbent has considerable latitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines. Employee is supervised by the Manager, Equipment Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Performs major repairs, inspections, diagnostics, adjustments, testing, cleaning, lubrication, and proper maintenance on assigned equipment and equipment systems in accordance with wiring diagrams, schematics, operations manuals and manufacturer's maintenance instructions.

  • Performs modifications on assigned equipment based on pre-engineered technical data and fabricates prototype test units to test sub-assemblies within systems.

  • Performs component renovation, installation work, and resolves maintenance problems not outlined in service manuals.

  • Attends assigned on-the-job and formal training classes.

  • Provides technical assistance to lower classified personnel in their work assignments. Complies with established maintenance and safety rules and regulations.

  • Completes documentation for installation, maintenance, and modification of system equipment

  • Operates an Authority vehicle. Works variable hours.


Electronic:
  • Observes microprocessor and system components and devices in operation to detect potential failures and locates causes of malfunction.

  • Uses complex electronic test equipment and other specialized tools as required. Observes and documents all repaired components during bum-in period.


Electro-Mechanical:
  • Uses electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters and specialized test equipment, in connection with job assignments.

  • Uses pneumatic, electric, manual hand tools, and shop tools in maintenance, repair, and modification procedures.

  • Uses soldering and welding equipment in the fabrication, repair and assembly of items, parts and assemblies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate from an accredited college or university with an Associate Degree in Electronic, Electro/Mechanical Systems or a related field, or graduation from an acceptable electronics trade school with a certificate in electronics/electro-mechanical studies. Electronic, electro-mechanical systems work is designed to include maintenance of digital and analog circuitry.

Or, a combination of post-high school education and considerable knowledge of and have performed satisfactorily the duties of an electronic technical or related field for a period of not less than six years.

Must satisfactorily pass any required tests and WMATA certifications.

Certification/Licensure:
Possession of a valid District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia motor vehicle operator's permit issued from the jurisdiction of residence is required.

Medical Group:
Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.
