Main Functions:
The MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA) provides public transportation services in the MetroWest area. MWRTA is seeking to hire a full-time route planner & scheduler. The MWRTA Route Planner & Scheduler will serve as one of the key functions of the organization and will work with MWRTA staff & MWRTA contractors to develop Public Transit Fixed Routes and Schedules.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication, writing, and time management skills

  • Able to work independently and have a flexible schedule (may occasionally include some evenings and/or weekends)

  • Manage various projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast paced and ever- changing environment

  • Valid Driver’s License

Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Partner with Senior Management as well as outside planning groups to develop Public Transit Fixed Routes and Schedules for the MWRTA.

  • Participate in developing/updating long-range plans and other special initiative plans.

  • Attend Transportation Safety & Advisory groups, as well as multi-modal organizations, such as Bicycle & Pedestrian committees.

  • Communicate with the public by creating and updating content for route and schedule websites, sending out news updates, conducting online and in-person public surveys, and participating in other communication strategies.

  • Responds to citizen inquires on transportation issues and explains transportation policies and/or investigates issues.

  • Use of various software packages, including Microsoft Office, as well as transportation planning and scheduling software (e.g. Hastus, Remix, Google Maps, etc.)

  • Use ESRI Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps for a variety of projects.

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive databases which meet state and federal reporting guidelines, including National Transit Database (NTD) reporting.

  • Provide support for public meetings, including organizing logistics, developing materials, compiling public comments, and assisting in evolving public participation methods;

  • Assist with Transportation studies, including data collection and analysis.

  • Provide support for grant applications.

  • Participate in the development of alternatives and recommendations to solve transportation-related problems.

  • Conduct a variety of research on transportation best practices.

  • Operate an MWRTA vehicle in the performance of job duties;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
  • Monday – Friday

  • Full time (40 hours) flexible work schedule

  • Availability for occasional evening/ weekend meetings

Preferred Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with course work in urban and/or regional planning, engineering, landscape architecture, geography, geographic information systems, or related field, and some related professional experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
