SUMMARY:
The Detroit People Mover is an enhanced elevated rail public transit service which provides transportation that affects not only the image of the city but also plays a role in the attraction of conventions and tourism, businesses and entertainment to downtown Detroit. Media, policy makers and the film industry all have incorporated the People Mover as a positive iconic symbol, one that is not an immobile landmark, but a functioning, utilized transit provider that supports the city.
Under the general direction of the General Manager, the System Safety Manager is responsible for administrating the Detroit Transportation Corporation's (DTC's) rail safety and occupational health, safety and environmental programs, and related training programs to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Detroit People Mover (DPM) system in compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies and city laws and ordinances, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.
SALARY: Starting at $100,000 (commensurate based on qualifying experience)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Specialized training in safety administration or construction safety inspection; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 4 years of supervisory experience with health and safety oversight responsibilities; Extensive experience performing related occupational health, safety and construction oversight and coordination; 7 years of progressive experience in a transit agency environment or governmental agency requiring independent analysis in responsiveness.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Specialized training in document management and meeting facilitation; Experience in performing occupational safety coordination for an operating rail enterprise or rail oversight agency, or in performing operations, maintenance or design responsibilities for a railway or rail transit agency; Professional safety certification and technical, engineering and rail transit experience
Completion of all required FTA TSI courses.
