SUMMARY
The Assistant Director, Shop Support Services and Non-Revenue Vehicles/Equipment effectively leads, guides, organizes and staffs Bus Maintenance functions. The incumbent assists bus maintenance leadership by advising on matters concerning operations, practices, procedures, policies and strategies within the Heavy Overhaul and Service Vehicles Shops. The incumbent assists in the oversight of Shop functions to include daily vehicle maintenance, administration of District of Columbia Inspections, accident repairs, complete painting/decaling, overhaul of major components, Mid-Life Overhaul Programs, non-revenue fleet utilization monitoring, parts management, policy development, performance reporting and customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reviews weekly and monthly production reports to ensure production goals are being met in various sub reporting groups.
  • Evaluates open workorders to maintain compliance with BMNT core measure targets recommending changes to prioritization of work assignments and changes to resources and/or policy.
  • Monitors Shop Performance and ensures adherence to quality standards with maintenance repair work recommending changes to prioritization of work assignments and changes to resources and/or policy.
  • Conducts special studies and investigations to improve efficiency, validate complaints and solve other operational related issues
  • Coaches superintendents, supervisors, and managers on ways to properly deal with operational situations
  • Prepares and presents oral and written reports / recommendations regarding problems and facilitates communication regarding trends and other concerns for corrective action plans

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering or related field

In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma or GED and four (4) additional years of work experience in transit maintenance to include supervisory/management experience, in addition to the experience stated below, will be considered

Experience
A minimum of six (6) years of experience in vehicle maintenance, of which at least four (4) years are in a supervisory and/or management capacity, overseeing the inspection and repair of a large inter/intra city bus, related vehicular fleet or other applicable industry

Certification/Licensure
Valid Driver’s License

Medical Group:
Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.
