The Deputy Chief, Design & Construction is a critical leadership role in Valley Metro’s Capital Development Division and reports directly to the Chief, Capital Development. The Deputy Chief, Design & Construction is responsible for representing the Capital Development Division, and agency, with internal and external stakeholders and serves as Valley Metro’s liaison with member agencies and the Federal Transit Administration.

As a Leader in the Valley Metro organization, the Deputy Chief, Design & Construction is expected to embody the agency’s mission of connecting communities and enhancing lives. This role is also instrumental in the delivery of strategic initiatives and providing an excellent customer experience for both internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Eight (8) years increasingly responsible experience in the development of major public transportation projects and infrastructure; encompassing various modes such as Light Rail Transit (LRT), Streetcars, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and more
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience
  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed may be considered

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree is desirable
  • Registration as a professional Civil Engineer in the State of Arizona is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of and experience in Federal Transit Administration programs, Capital Investment Grant (CIG) funding mechanisms, and transportation project management, particularly pertaining to FTA funded projects is desirable
