WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The Specialist II, Executive Communications reports directly to the Sr. Director, Chief of Staff. This position is responsible for complex communications in support of the CapMetro President & CEO in their internal and external communications. The Specialist II, Executive Communications works closely alongside the Strategic Communications, Marketing, Community Engagement, and Government Affairs Teams to ensure executive communications are in line with agency initiatives and priorities and will work with other departments to ensure content is accurate and timely. This position will develop a variety of materials and activities including social media posts, presentations, talking points, and internal and external messaging and engagement opportunities, and will use these materials to contribute to success in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented team environment.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Assist with the implementation of an integrated executive communications strategy, with a particular focus on executive communications.

  • Write, edit, and distribute timely, proactive speeches, talking points, presentations, social media content, and internal and external communications and related materials.

  • Serve as lead on certain executive communications needs, including attending events with the President & CEO and developing (writing, reviewing, and finalizing) communications materials.

  • Assist in the development, coordination, and staffing of special events such as news conferences, grand openings, and new service launches, as assigned to ensure the President & CEO is well equipped for each event.

  • Assist in the development of community and employee engagement activations and events.

  • Contribute community and political perspective towards the development of communications strategy.

  • Draft responses to questions, concerns and complaints from customers, stakeholders for distribution from the President & CEO, Deputy CEO, and Chief of Staff.

  • Collaborate communications with internal project and initiative owners, especially CapMetro Government Affairs, Communications, Marketing, Planning, Operations, and Capital Projects Teams.

  • Provide general communications and social media support outside of regular business hours on a limited basis.

  • Track and maintain archives of key messages and materials related to public outreach and education.

  • Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action and reporting safety and security concerns.

  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs or related field. Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years.

  • Four (4) years of experience in similar roles or responding to media requests, producing news releases, developing briefing materials and speeches, and implementing public relations and internal communications strategies.

  • Proven writing and editing experience covering a range of writing styles, including Associated Press Style (AP), features, presentations, and online communications. Writing samples will be required if selected for an interview.
