SUMMARY:
AC Transit is actively recruiting for the position of Senior Transportation Supervisor. Under general supervision; plans, directs and monitors the activities of a Service Supervision section of the Transportation Department to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the District's revenue and non-revenue transit vehicles; and supervises a large staff of Transportation Supervisors. REPRESENTATIVE FUNCTIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Monitors the performance of Transportation Supervisors by reviewing daily reports, monitoring recorded radio communications, meeting with staff, and accompanying staff on work assignments.
• Reviews Transportation Supervisor and Operations Control Center Controllers daily reports of road operation activity for legibility, accuracy, and completeness, and to keep up-to-date on events that effect the operations of the Transportation Department.
• Meets with staff on an ongoing basis to discuss operational issues; and provide updated information on District policies, procedures, and relevant legislation affecting operations.
• Trains Transportation Supervisors and Operations Control Center Controllers on District policies and procedures, and on all relevant equipment and technology, including, but not limited to CAD/AVL and NextBus.
• Develops quarterly work schedules for 24-hour operations, and makes revisions to accommodate special events, as well as circumstances such as vacations, training, and holidays.
• Investigates complaints from the public and/or District personnel, and takes appropriate action to resolve problems, including re-instructing staff and issuing discipline.
• Makes recommendations to management personnel regarding operational or procedural changes.
• Meets with outside agencies and organizations, including county and city governments, the Red Cross, school districts, and other transit properties; to discuss special events and the coordination of emergency preparedness.
• Meets with city and county government officials to discuss route changes, bus stop and shelter locations for fact finding purposes, and to provide recommendations for problem resolution.
• Investigates major accidents and incidents, and makes determinations regarding causation, and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
• Activates Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and performs the functions of the Incident Commander at the EOC.
• Tracks the certification and licensing of assigned staff, including California Driver License (CDL), CDL training certification, and Verification of Transit Training (VTT) certification. Schedules re-certification training accordingly.
• Redesigns work-related forms, and updates the Supervisor/Operations Controller Center procedural manual.
• Schedules department vehicles for maintenance.
• Inventories the department's office supplies, and distributes supplies to operating divisions.
• Operates AC Transit buses as needed, and in the event of an emergency.
• May perform the functions of an Operations Control Center Controller in unusual or emergency situations.
• Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Equivalent to three (3) years as a Transportation Supervisor at AC Transit, or an equivalent large public transit agency. One (1) or more years of experience as an Operations Control Center Controller or equivalent is highly desired.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from the 12th grade, plus two (2) years of college, including coursework in supervision, management, or business. Additional years of experience above the minimum will be considered as a substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge Of: Transit operations; the District's collective bargaining agreements; radio/dispatch operations; all computer hardware, software, and related technology used in Operations Control Center; methods and District policies regarding progressive discipline; and standard office practices.

Ability To: Exercise independent and sound judgment; handle matters of a confidential nature; coordinate multiple activities simultaneously; supervise, motivate, and provide training to a large number of employees; quickly learn and effectively use state-of-the-art computer hardware and software as adopted by the District, and as required for the position; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; operate standard office equipment; operate Operations Control Center equipment; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work using principles of good customer service.

Special Requirement: Must be available to work weekends and evenings, and be on-call 24 hours a day, as required by the regular schedule, and the demands of the job.

Physical Requirements: (1) Must maintain the physical ability necessary to perform tasks in an office setting, operating multiple computers, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment. (2) Must maintain normal vision and hearing (with or without correction) on a constant basis. (3) For field operations: must maintain the physical ability necessary to safely drive a variety of District vehicles, sit in a vehicle continually or intermittently for up to four or more hours per day depending on weather and traffic; enter and exit vehicle quickly and frequently; stand, walk, and climb bus stairs frequently; grasp, lift, hold, and manipulate light items under twenty (20) pounds frequently, such as laptop computers, cell phones, clipboards and writing implements; occasionally lift heavier items and materials up to fifty (50) pounds, such as buckets and bags of absorbent materials; and occasionally stoop, kneel, or bend.

License Requirements: Must possess, or obtain, and maintain, a valid California Class B Driver License with a "P" endorsement, and meet AC Transit District's driving standards.
