The Information Technology Specialist plans, directs and manages the technology activities of the transit operation.  

Location consist of 86 buses for the fixed route operation of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (Quincy location). 

This is for proposed business. Offers of employment are contingent upon winning the contract to establish new business services with the client.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages and supports technology resources including hardware, software, web applications, etc. 

  • Responsible for maintenance and support of servers, PCs, peripherals, ACD telephony, security systems, recording systems, and service providers to ensure continuous connectivity and system operations.  

  • Develops training/policy material and trains staff as necessary to continually improve their ability to use software and hardware resources.  Ensures compliance with company’s I.T. and Internet policies.

  • Works closely with software vendors to develop and implement system improvement including mapping and similar contractual requirements. 

  • Coordinates with regional and corporate IT representatives to diagnose and resolve problems.

  • Manages extensive data collection and analysis processes to ensure accurate and timely weekly, monthly and annual reporting to client agency and corporate support resources.

  • Manages daily and weekly back-up and archival systems, and runs SQL batch jobs as necessary, to ensure continuous data security.  Monitors system health, logs events, ensures adequate virus protection, and removes unauthorized software. 

  • Leads the location’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan and ensures that all processes are in place to ensure continuous operations and that the most up-to-date recovery options are available including coordination off-site storage and emergency operations solutions.

  • Manages stringent confidentiality and security procedures at all times to protect client data and to ensure compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the contract.

  • Maintains inventory of computers, telephones, peripherals, etc. including current login account information for LAN, websites, telephony, and application software.

  • Serves as a key member of the division’s upper-level management team; works closely with the General Manager and the other departmental managers.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:
  • Bachelor Degree in business, transportation or IT management

Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years experience supporting applications, network, server and desktops

  • Ability to configure servers and manage computer networks, troubleshoot and solve desktop applications, operating systems and networking software problems.

  • Ability to write clearly and to document IT related processes and procedures in non technical language for inclusion in employee handbooks and manuals; Ability to assist with training and presentations.

  • Must be able to plan and manage projects to implement improvements within deadlines.


Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Travel requirement (as a percent): < 25% Infrequent travel to meet the needs of the business

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • 100% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities.

  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
