The Senior Scheduler reports to the Manager, Operations Planning and is responsible for the scheduling and analysis of fixed-route bus and crew schedules for San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans). We seek an experienced individual who will be responsible for bus transit system data exports to downstream applications such as Automated Vehicle Location Systems (AVL), Google Transit Feed Specifications File (GTFS File) and payroll file system and can recommend modifications to service or driver runs to improve service quality as well as develop and administer fixed-route schedules. This position uses automated scheduling software (HASTUS) to develop and test efficient vehicle and crew optimizations. In this hands on role, you will produce the standard bid and operations documents, including paddles, frequency report, route maps, and other interfaces and reports and supervise and train staff.

We seek an individual who can supervise the updating and maintenance of the HASTUS scheduling data including GEO route structures, deadhead links, minimum layover times, destination sign codes, work rules and parameters, place capacity values, and other key elements of the scheduling process as well as assist IT with technical improvements to the scheduling software and help develop statistical reports. Responsibilities will also include being able to document scheduling and run cutting procedures and prepare Standard Operating Procedures when appropriate.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, Mathematics, Planning or related field plus three years full-time experience in scheduling or service planning and one year of lead supervisory experience required. Also must have advanced skills working with spreadsheet programs (i.e. Excel),general knowledge of programing concepts and direct experience using automated scheduling and run-cutting software. Familiarity with HASTUS is desirable. A California Driver License with a safe driving record is required.
