Overview:
The Senior Director of Purchasing will implement purchasing savings plan for Direct spend (vehicle parts & supplies) and Indirect spend. Additionally, this role will lead and develop Corporate purchasing department staff. The primary responsibility will be to support our Transit division, then expanding into other divisions to leverage company scale 1.3 Billion in revenue.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop procurement strategies and processes for all categories of direct and indirect spend

  • Motivate and develop skills and capabilities of purchasing department staff

  • Create and establish procurement policies and procedures for purchase to payment end to end process

  • Assign, review, approve and negotiate major purchasing initiatives, and generate the budgeted savings

  • Lead sourcing initiatives for the acquisition fleet requirements and goods and services used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles.

  • Validate and Consolidate supplier volume and identify new supplier partnerships

  • Manage vendor relationship and negotiations

  • Develop and monitor the overall procurement savings plan

  • Develop the Purchasing intranet site

  • Implement e-purchasing for specific categories

  • Implement and drive compliance of new vendor programs

  • Evaluate current tools and software and propose modernization plan in coordination with Group corporate purchasing

  • Provide pricing for Business Development bids


Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:

  • College degree and/or an accredited Purchasing Certification


Experience:

  • 10 years of experience purchasing in an Automotive manufacturer environment or Transportation industry with experience purchasing aftermarket/spare parts (Automotive all makes)

  • Experience determining purchasing and procurement strategic initiatives

  • Experience implementing internal controls

  • Demonstrated success in the sourcing and purchasing of a broad range of goods and services, as per list below, with a combined annual spend exceeding $125+ million:

    • Fleet - Transit buses, medium duty vehicles, cars and vans

    • Vehicle maintenance related items – parts, tires, fluids, MRO

    • Energy related commodities

    • IT related products and services

    • Aftermarket parts

    • Spare parts

    • Telecoms

    • Miscellaneous general and administrative expense items

  • Exceptional track record of building relationships with stakeholders across a large, decentralized organization

  • FTA purchasing experience and/or knowledge would be an asset.

  • Results oriented and proven ability to deliver savings

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Excellent communication and project management skills

  • Knowledge of procurement systems and processes

  • Interpersonal Skills

Travel requirement (as a percent): 50%
