Position Summary:

The Traction Power Technician is responsible for operating and performing preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on the entire traction power system to include power substations, the feeder system and OCS systems.

Description of Duties:

  • Will operate, maintain and troubleshoot power substations including but not limited to: power transformers, protection relays, circuit breakers, switchboards and respond to alarms
  • Must be able to perform switching orders according to the power necessity, rack-in / rack-out 25kv circuit breakers
  • Perform overhead catenary inspections and preventive maintenance according to our maintenance plan
  • Perform catenary line tensioning, electrical tests, adjustments and repairs on the traction electrification system including 25kv disconnect switches, surge arresters, insulators, arms, poles, grounding system
  • Must enter up-to-date, accurate records of performed duties into the electronic records-keeping database
  • Performs a variety of troubleshooting and testing tasks on electrical and electronic components and circuits to locate defects
  • Repairs and/or replaces defective components, conductors, and equipment
  • Operates Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) equipment as needed to perform job duties following approved training practices and procedures
  • Must follow safe working practices and procedures to perform duties in an active operating passenger railroad
  • Must act as a professional and responsible representative of the Partnership and RTD
  • Must comply with all safety sensitive job requirements and testing
  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Two years demonstrated journeyman level experience in the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment
  • One year demonstrated ability to work with 440V or higher following industry safety practices and procedures (A combination of education and work history could meet qualification requirement)
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to operate bucket trucks
  • Must pass a written qualifications examination with a score of eighty percent (80%) or better
  • Must pass recurrent hands on and written assessment examinations
  • Excellent computer skills, including a proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics and technical manuals
  • Aerial lineman experience preferred
  • Experience with vacuum circuit breakers preferred
  • High voltage 25KV experience preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work scheduled overtime and be available for non-scheduled emergency call outs outside of assigned work hours
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and successfully pass a pre-employment background check
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and be willing to comply with the DTO Drug and Alcohol Policy
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license
