Position Summary:

The Communication Technician is responsible for inspection, testing and repair of the commuter railroad network and communications infrastructure including voice, data, signal, train control, CCTV and network security services. Technicians must comply with all state and federal laws, rules and regulations to provide a safe and reliable commuter rail system.

Description of Duties:

  • Perform safety inspections and tests of train control equipment per FRA Part 234 and 236
  • Test faulty equipment and apply knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction
  • Test electronic components and circuits to locate defects
  • Replace defective components and wiring and adjust mechanical parts
  • Align, adjust, and calibrate equipment according to specifications
  • Calibrate testing instruments
  • Maintain records of inspections, repairs, calibrations, and tests in the AssetWorks LinearFocus module
  • Use the computer to copy programs from one electronic component to another or to draw, modify, or store schematics
  • Maintain the Operations Control Center (OCC) system, responding to trouble reports from users
  • Coordinate with subcontractor personnel in maintaining the OCC System
  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in electrical/electronic/computer technology
  • Minimum one year experience working electrical or electronic diagnosis and repair or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in railroad train control inspection, maintenance and repair is desirable
  • Ability to comply with all safety rules and instructions including the use of proper personal protective equipment
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret operating and maintenance manuals, schematics, prints and instructions typically used in the position
  • Must be able to work scheduled overtime and be available for non-scheduled emergency call outs outside of assigned work hours
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and successfully pass a pre-employment background check
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and be willing to comply with the DTO Drug and Alcohol Policy
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license
