Position Summary:

The Signal Maintainer is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of signal system components including highway grade crossing equipment, switch machines, train-to-wayside communication systems, vital/non-vital processors, wayside detection devices, and other signal and communication apparatus in accordance with state regulations and FRA Parts 234 and 236.

Description of Duties:

  • Perform required safety inspections and tests of signal system components and train control equipment in accordance with state regulations and FRA Parts 234 and 236
  • Perform preventive maintenance of signal system components and train control equipment in accordance with state regulations and FRA Parts 234 and 236
  • Respond to reports of signal system and train control problems and troubleshoot, diagnose and correct malfunctions
  • Comply with all safety rules and instructions including the use of proper personal protective equipment and Roadway Worker Protection
  • Document and report work and inspections in accordance with railroad, state, and FRA requirements
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records of inspections, repairs, calibrations, and tests in the Asset Works Linear Focus module
  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Associates Degree in Electronics or Electrical Technology or equivalent technical background gained through military or on-the-job training preferred
  • Successful completion of a Signal Training Program sponsored by a qualified organization preferred
  • Minimum two years’ experience with microprocessor based equipment to include operation, programming, diagnosis and repair
  • Minimum two years’ experience in the field of railroad signaling and train control inspection, maintenance and repair
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight schedules and deadlines while maintaining system quality and reliability
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work scheduled overtime and be available for non-scheduled emergency call outs outside of assigned work hours
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and successfully pass a background check
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and be willing to comply with the DTO Drug and Alcohol Policy
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license
