Job Summary/Duties:
  • Supervises technical vehicle maintenance work involving inspection, disassembly, rebuild/repair, assembly and installation of large and small electric/pneumatic/hydraulic components as well as preventative, corrective, body, paint and machinist work for all aspects of vehicle maintenance systems to include garage and shop activities. Initiates and supervise repairs, campaigns, rebuilds, reports and maintenance data collection associated with the technical aspect in support of Bus Maintenance.

  • Supervises and plans the inspection and preventive, corrective, rebuilding, and machine maintenance schedules for the Authority’s vehicles, components, and equipment. Establishes work priorities and ensures efficient personnel and material utilization. Establishes and adjusts work procedures to meet maintenance and repair schedules.

  • Supervises technical maintenance and administrative tasks associated with buses in the Active and Inactive Fleets. Inspects out of service buses for shop maintenance at operating divisions to ensure required materials are available and shop repairs are completed to return the bus to service. Evaluates ABus Shopping Reports@ initiated from out-of-service buses in shop maintenance, and coordinates proper documentation.

  • Analyzes and troubleshoots major mechanical failures. Recommends measures to improve equipment performance and efficiency of work force.

  • Supervises maintenance personnel involved in corrective or preventive maintenance and provides technical assistance. Plans and coordinates work assignments; monitors quality of work performed; and, instructs in proper work methods and inspection routines. May work variable locations, shifts, and days.

  • Instructs/trains employees utilizing applicable technical data, tools, precision measuring/special equipment, test instrumentation and correct maintenance programs/procedures.

  • Evaluates employee performance, certifies that employees have successfully completed required training programs, and are qualified to operate specific equipment, and perform specified duties.

  • Supervises subordinate staff to include recommending applicant selection, disciplinary actions, grievance resolution, assigning duties, directing work, approving leave requests and time sheets.

  • Prepares and completes oral, written and electronic reports and documentation ensuring the accurate extraction of information for statistical and management purposes, program needs, equipment evaluation, etc. Updates as-built diagrams for future installation, maintenance and equipment modification.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate supplemented by advanced formal training in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems or related fields and progressively responsible related technical experience in bus maintenance. A minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible technical supervisory experience in bus maintenance environment.

Must have Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician certification or obtain ASE Master Technician certification within twelve (12) months of taking the position.

Possession of, or a valid Commercial driver’s license with air brake and passenger endorsements issued from the jurisdiction of residence.
