KL2 Connects has been retained to recruit a Director of Operations for Transpo (South Bend, Indiana). Reporting to the General Manager/CEO, this individual will direct the overall operations of bus and paratransit services; formulate and administer procedures, improvements, and policy recommendations (for approval by the GM and Board of Directors); formulate system performance standards and monitor compliance; play a key role in the development of operations staff; facilitate the improvement of Transpo services; ensure a positive working environment conducive to high productivity; present programs and information to employees, professional organizations, governmental/regulatory agencies, and the public; and decide or delegate third-step union grievances per the collective bargaining agreement.
Transpo provides fixed route and paratransit services to the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana, home to five universities including the University of Notre Dame. Located in northeastern Indiana, the South Bend region offers a range of outdoor recreation, entertainment, dining, shopping, and cultural amenities. It boasts the second busiest airport in Indiana and is connected to Chicago via the South Shore Railroad. Transpo operates out of a LEED Platinum Administration, Operations, and Maintenance Facility, the nation’s first. In 2015 Transpo began updating its fixed route bus fleet and currently operates 19 CNG buses with an aggressive plan to be 100% CNG by 2021. Transpo recently completed construction of a $5.5 Million CNG public fast fueling center, the region’s largest. Transpo serves a population of approximately 175,000 and carries over 2.1 million riders annually. The system employs over 80 operators with 120 total employees.
The ideal candidate will have public transit operations and paratransit operational experience, a minimum of three years of management experience including labor relations, and a Bachelors in Public Administration, Urban Affairs, Business Administration, or a related field.
